Nepal is a small landlocked country surrounded by China from the north and India from south, east and west. On the basis of physical features, Nepal can be divided into three main geographical regions which are completely different from one another. They are Mountain Region, Hily Region and Terai Region.

Various types of folk songs are in existence in terms of religion, caste, place and culture. Such folk songs have equal importance in different contexts and situations. Recently Nepali folk songs have been developed into professional duel folk songs.
In the different festivals and fairs, it is a common practice to use musical instruments with song. Like the song, musical instruments are also different on the basics of particular place, particular race, particular festival or particular religion. Classical dance is performed in accordance with classical song or instrument. Similarly, folk dances are performed in conformity with folk song. We celebrate many national days by conducting various programmes. Some of the national days of nepal are children's day, constitution day, marty's day, democracy day, education day, international women's day, loktantra day, international labour day, etc.
With a view to maintain balance in the regional development, the kingdom of Nepal was divided into four development regions in the year 2029. Later on. in the year 2037, seperate Far Western Development Region comprising Mahakali and Seti Zones was created. In this way, Nepal was divided in five development regions with a development centre in each region.
