There are various animals in various places of Nepal which are supposed to be rare. Clouded leopard, panda, rhinoceros, spotted tiger, elephant, musk deer, giant pied hornbill, crane, cobra, ceocodile, charibagh, wild buffalo, black stag, asamese monkey, pangolin, python etc. are rare animals. Some are introduced briefly below as examples:
1. Clouded Leopard
Clouded leopard is found in the dense forest at the bottom of mid hill. Its body is clouded in colour and has irregular patches on some parts. They look very attractie. It is very simple in nature and this animal do not harm like other leopards. It is listed in the endangered group of animals. Its number is reducing day by day due to the destruction of habitat. It is rare because it is illigally killed to sell its teeth, leather, etc.
2. Red Panda
Red Panda is found at the altitude of 3500 meter where there is jungle of bamboo, reed, etc. It is found in temperate region. It survices eating grass, fruits, bamboo and new shoot of reeds. It used to sufficiently found in earlier period in mountain region. It was killed for of its beautiful furry leather. Nowadays its number is decreasing. It is at the verge of extinction.
3. One-Horned Rhinoceros
One-horned rhinoceros is found in the Shiwalik and terai region of Nepal. It is protected because it is rare animal. Chitwan National Park and Bardiya National Park are the main habitats of rhinoceros. It likes places of marsh grass land and sal forest. Its food are green grass and various species of wild fruits. It gives borth to one baby at a time. Its hornn, hoof, leather, etc have vital importance so it is illigally hunted which has endangered its existence.
4. Bengal Tiger
Bengal tiger is found in the forest of terai. It is also rare and protected animal of Nepal. It is found in Chitwan National Park, Parsa Wildlife Reserve, Bardiya National Park and Sukla Phanta Wildlife Reserve. It lives in the dense forest, grass land and place with enough water. It is also endangered due to illigal hunting. It is the biggest amoung the tigers. There are black stripes on its body. It can swim in water. Stag, wild pig, wild cow and different kinds of deer are its food. It gives virth to two to six offspring at a time.
5. Asiatic Elephant
Elephant is found in the forests of terai of Nepal. The main habitat of elephant is the forest from the Chure hill to lower plain region. Elephants are found in Jhapa, Parsa Wildlife Reserve, Chitwan National Park, Bardiya National Park and Shukla Phanta Wildlife Reserve. Elephant is rare and peotected animal of Nepal. It is about 3.5 meters tall. The tusks of male elephant are bigger than females. It eats trees, leaves, grasses, bamboo, cereals, etc. It gives birth to only one offspring at a time. It has tusk which is called Ivory. It is killed illegally for its tusk. This is also one of the reasons for decreasing its number.
6. Ginat Pied Hornbill
There are two kinds of hornbill; big and small. Big hornbill is found in the forest of terai. People hunt it for meat and medicine. Its bone and fat are used to make medicine. Its number has decreased due to the destruction of forest in terai. It is declared protected bird because it is at the stage of extinction.
7. Asiatic Rock Python
Python is a big snake. It usually lives in dense forest. It lives hiding in big logs of tree and dry leaves. It also lives sometimes in the grass land near big rivers and big ponds. It is a protected and rare creature of Nepal. Its head is wide. Its eyes are small. Iris of its eye is yellow. Its body is white, black and spotted. It is about 7 meters long. It wighs about 90 kg. It is the biggest among the various snakes found in the world but it is no poisonous. It can swallow up the lambs of goat and deer. From its leather goods like expensive waist belt, bags, etc are made therefore, it is hunted for that.
